Long, long time ago in Dingly Dell,
there was a lush crop of Christmas trees growing, all in perfect shape.
‘We”ll cut them down and tie them up and take them to the poor houses’ boomed Father Christmas.
The fairies and elves always did as they were told and so they got to work just as Father Christmas wanted.
They prepared and delivered hundreds of the trees until they were ready
for their last sleigh-run.
The fairies and elves loaded the sleigh up but there was just one tree left.
A fairy went up to Father Christmas, who was very, very tired, and said
‘what shall I do with the last Christmas tree?’
And that’s why we have a fairy on the top of our tree at Christmas.
